Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) was formed on 1 November 1956. It is a government body that was created by the Constitution of India. Its objective is to recruit applicants for civil service jobs under Bihar State Administration. The multiple posts for which the examination is conducted are sub-departmental officers, rural development officers and district cleaners officers. Under Article 315, this constitutional body initially started functioning with its headquarters in Ranchi.
On 1 March 1951, the state government decided to shift the headquarters of BPSC from Ranchi to Patna. The recruitment process is exclusively for Group B and Group C. Before appearing for the examination, the candidates should have a good understanding of the exam pattern and syllabus so that they can direct their preparation appropriately.
BPSC Exam Pattern
The BPSC exam is based on the IAS exam. It is conducted in three different levels, prelims, mains and interviews. There is a round of personal interview after the prelims and mains written test. Candidates who clear the prelims qualify to appear in Mains. Those qualified men are called for interview.
Prelims consist of an objective paper with 150 marks. Mains consists of 4 descriptive papers which are subjective in nature and carry a total of 900 marks. The third stage, which is a personal interview, has a weight of 120 marks.
